To me, a Wellness Retreat is a place where I would go to centre, relax, reenergise and give my mind and body a swift kick up the butt that most of us so desperately need.Last week I was on a plane to Broome to attend my first ever Wellness Retreat.
I arrived on Sunday afternoon with 12 other women all ready and eager to meet Charlotte and see what delights Cable Beach Club had install for us.
On arriving at Cable Beach Club we were ushered to the Club Restaurant for our first lunch of the retreat, a delicious udon noodle salad and herbal tea. After lunch we were whisked away one by one and taken through our schedule. Afterwards we were shown to our Pool Terrace Studio Room. That’s right! A studio room right on the adult pool. the same adult pool I hadn’t seen it in 8 years or so. It’s the simple things that I appreciate…. Ok, so our schedule….
- Yoga session at 7am
- Personal training session at 10.30am
- Cooking demonstration at 12pm
- Meditation at 1pm
- Afternoon Chahoya Day Spa treatment
- Yoga session at 5pm
- Dinner at 7pm.
All of this on 1200 carefully counted calories per day. Before this retreat I can honestly say that I would have had no idea what 1200 calories looks like. It’s surprising how much delicious food you can eat to fill 1200 calories, when the right foods are chosen of course.
The food at Cable Beach Club was impressive. The chefs created sumptuous meals in Thai, Japanese, Italian, all with the calories perfectly counted and without substituting taste.
Charlotte Dodson changed my opinion on yoga. I had always been the ‘yoga is boring’ type. I love to sweat and workout but what I didn’t realise is that you can also achieve this sense of hard work and results through yoga. What I learnt is that yoga is a way of living. It not only transforms your body but teaches your mind to be in the present moment, something I have practiced through other means for years. Charlotte pushed me to places my body and mind had never been before which was completely exhilarating.
The personal training sessions were the great puff and sweat that I love so much and the mediation sessions were so insanely calming. I can honestly say that the guided 30 minute meditation with Charlotte is the major part of the Wellness Retreat that I miss already.
The Chahoya Day Spa treatments were incredible. On my last day I was able to experience the 2 hour signature Chahoya massage. AH..MA..ZING. If this is the only reason you ever head to Broome then do it. The signature Chahoya massage has been designed exclusively for Cable Beach Club Resort & Spa so you wont find it anywhere else in the world.
Stopping and connecting is not the usual result of my holidays of late but it’s now something I am aiming to fit in every year. I am a huge advocate for mind body connection, mediation and being in the present moment all of which I somehow missed the memo that yoga was a fine tuned way to achieve that bliss. As hard as I honestly find it to fit it in to my everyday life, I will try harder to make sure that I do.
Thank you to Cable Beach Club Resort & Spa for facilitating such an incredible few days of health, wellness and yoga with Charlotte Dodson. And to the inspiring ladies I met whilst I was there. I loved my journey with you all and hope we get to catch up again soon, maybe over a real cocktail this time….
