In November last year I attacked my first 3 day juice cleanse with Perth Raw Foodies (here). It pleasantly surprised me and when the opportunity came up to do it again I jumped at the chance.
A couple of weeks ago we had an early morning visit from Clint of Perth Raw Foodies. As he walked towards our front door with my crate of cold pressed juices I could see Andrew’s eyes light up out.
You see, the last time I did the program, my 3 day’s of juice sort of ended up being 2 and a bit day’s worth of cleansing. Andrew and the kids would get stuck into my juices whenever I turned my back. They are seriously that delicious.
Clint put the crate down on the kitchen bench and as they were being unpacked I was reading my family the right act. No touching!
I suddenly had a very quick thought, Andrew, how about you do it this time? It was just after Christmas and having really enjoyed himself since retiring from AFL, I thought it might be the kick start he needed to get back into a healthy routine.
I don’t know if it was because I wasn’t going to let him touch my juice this time around or if I put him on the spot in front of Clint but to my detriment, he said yes.
Here’s my interview with Andrew on his 3 day juice cleanse with Perth Raw Foodies.
What would you define as healthy? Having a balanced lifestyle. A combination of eating the right foods and exercise.
Why did you decided to do the cleanse? Firstly, the juices looked really good and secondly, since I retired I have been enjoying my food and wine and thought it was a good opportunity to do something different and hopefully loose a couple of kg’s while I was at it.
Did you find anything really challenging about the cleanse? Yeah, well it was the first time I had gone without eating solids for 3 days (which I don’t recommend without a proper nutrition supplement plan from a professional) but I actually felt all right. I felt like I had energy, I didn’t feel hungry and it was actually really good.
Did you get any cravings? Certainly when dinner time rolled around, when I had to cook the kids dinner and having you rub it in, at times was difficult but no real specific cravings.
How did you feel after the cleanse? Hungry….ha! Nah, I felt good. I was looking forward to having a good feed but in saying that, I didn’t feel like heading out and eating duck and pork and all the good things that I usually like. For a good 3 or 4 days after my cleanse I was eating really healthy and felt fantastic.
Would you do it again? The best thing about doing this particular cleanse was that the juices I was drinking were really tasty. Having a 3 day cleanse was plenty for me as it was the kick start I needed to really get me back on the healthy track. Having really ‘enjoyed’ life for the past few months the 3 days cleanse was a welcome kick start to getting back on my fitness and healthy eating routine that I have been so accustom to for the past 15 years. Clint: I would love some of these juices to drink everyday. Can we organise something? The beetroot, guava and lemon was my favourite!!
