On Friday night my good friend Nic who blogs at The Style Trust organised ‘Galentines Day’ at Cottesloe Beach Hotel. I had to beg the question. What exactly was ‘Galentines Day?’ Answer?! It’s a day around Valentines Day where you celebrate with the special women in your life.
Now I know soooo many of you don’t actually believe in Valentines Day and yes, you have your reasons. It’s too commercial, you don’t need one day a year to remind your partner that you love them or perhaps you’re already amazing at doing that everyday?! Well good on you!!
What I want to talk about is how this day can also be about celebrating the special listeners in our lives. The people that have supported you and made your love possible. No matter how successful a relationship is, it usually doesn’t have legs without the support of friends and family.
Having been married for 9 years I can honestly say it’s not all chocolates and roses. There are times when things are perfect and times when things just aren’t. It’s those times when I look to my gals, my ladies, my special few for support and a good old chin wag. What I admire most about women is their ability to listen and for the true women in our lives, the ability to listen without judgement.
This year I want to dedicate Valentines Day not only to my husband but to the special women in my life who have listened to me, loved me and given me their whole hearts when I needed a heart to lean on. I can honestly say that because of the unconditional time that you have given me it has strengthened the bond in my marriage and makes me a better person everyday. It’s amazing how good you feel after some verbal diarrhea, not to mention how nice I am to everyone after! Haha.
So if Valentines Day isn’t for you then jump on the Galentines Day bandwagon, after all, most of us wouldn’t have gotten where we are today in our relationships if it wasn’t for the amazing ‘gals’ in our lives. Now that’s something to celebrate!
Happy Valentines Day!!! AND…..Happy Galentines Day too xx
