I was so disgusted when I watched this segment on Channel 7’s Sunday night I actually cried for the last 3 minuets of the program.
I can’t stop thinking about it!! The images of an 8 year old boy getting kicked in the head and a 6 year old girl getting strangled and in tears are etched into my brain.
What got me was watching the PARENTS cheering and filming their kids on like they were watching the adults UFC.
If you haven’t seen it then you can take a look here.
Putting young kids in a cage to fight is not only animalistic but a complete violation of responsible parenting. We know the risks of alcohol, nicotine and preservatives can do to young developing brains and body’s, but what about copping blows to the head, liver, spleen and kidneys?
Ok, so yes, the rules state that you are not allowed to hit above the collar bone. Did you see the 8 year old boy cop a kick to the head? He stumbled, looked dazed and confused and the best part, his parents stopped the fight and took him out of the cage because he was clearly concussed. Well actually no, that last part didn’t happen, they let him fight on. Here is the 6 year old girl pictured getting strangled.
I know that kids as young as 4 participate in boxing and other like sports but I haven’t seem any of them fighting in a caged ring, especially without head gear. A little sparing in the back yard with dad is fun, participating in an adult sport and belting up your mates in a cage, not so fun.
Any dad that takes his 8 year old son and get’s BEAST cut into his hair before a fight is clearly letting him watch and be enthralled in the extremely violent sport of UFC.
I’m convinces some of these parents are seeing million dollar signs when they look at their kids in the ring. They recognise that UFC is the fastest growing sport and a billion dollar industry and maybe if they start their kids young, they might have a chance at turning professional, after all Tiger Woods was playing golf at 2. Parents who take their kids to find a small piece of tribal land to legally put their kids inside a cage to fight against all scientific evidence that this is NOT good for a developing child (hence it being illegal in most country’s) is not making a good decision in my eyes.
Kids emulate their parents, they want to be their parents and they want their parents to be proud. These kids are at such an impressionable age and they are fast learning how they will get by in this world with their parents love and approval.
I get that kids get obsessed with sport, I have one of those. Lux is crazy about golf, it’s all he wants to do day and night. If he was obsessed with martial arts then I would let him pursue that without a doubt but would I let him into the ring to fight as a child? Absolutely not, I don’t care how many tantrums he throws.
Please parents, guide your kids in the age appropriate direction, or turn on the kid friendly TV channels….
I would love to hear what Danny Green thinks of kids fighting UFC?
What do you think?
