I am one of those mothers who isn’t afraid to ask for help. If I’m in need of guidance or need a problem solved I’m very happy to hit the books or ask around.
Autumn, my beautiful princess, the apple of my eye…….my biggest challenge…..if you get what I mean.
From the moment she was born she new what she wanted, you could say that she was quite demanding. When she was little it was easy to deal with, now that she is older we seem to be butting heads, allot!
She has a personality that doesn’t hesitate. She is all in guns blazing. Act now, think later. She is the child that would be happy to run and throw herself into the swimming pool regardless of the fact that she couldn’t swim, and then do it again.
She has chosen her clothes since she was 18 months old and barely eats anything but sushi and dill pickles.
Autumn is what you would call tunnel visioned. When she wants something she can’t do anything else but to try and figure out how to get it. Nothing is heard, nothing is seen. It’s just Autumn and she is on her mission.
These are all the amazing attributes I would want to see in a daughter of 25 but in a 3 year old it is mighty challenging!!
She doesn’t hear no, don’t or even stop when the psychic mother can pre-empt that debacle of a situation that is about to happen.
For all the hard mother daughter days that we have it is so comforting when I pick her up from pre-kindy and her teacher informs me that she is an absolute delight. She shares, she comforts the sad kids, she listens….what the! Warms the cockles of my heart that does!
I was at the point of needing some serious help. The books and info that I was gathering just weren’t cutting the mustard.
I was attending a Women in Business WA lunch at Beluga when my mum, Jennifer Bryant said I HAD to meet Kate Trevillian and hear about her business Discover Parent Magic.
Kate’s business specialises in personality/behavioural profiling for children and adults. Wow, this could not have come at a more appropriate time for me. I was at their next available course.
First we profiled myself, then Autumn (and Lux). What was so obvious to find was how similar we both are.
Once I understood the fundamentals of how our personalities work I was able to work through the course and learn skills of how specifically to interact with her. The appropriate behaviours, discipline and course of action for her age and her personality.
It reminded me of the simple things. I thinks it’s so easy to get caught up in the situation, we forget to take it back to basics, forget to implement the strategies that we may or may not already know.
The course taught me some great strategies that I have been implementing at home. It’s not a quick immediate fix but a work in progress and that work is all on myself. We can guide our children but the way we teach and react are the only things we truly have control over.
I want to offer this opportunity to you.
If you are in need or wanting information to help brush up on your parenting skills I can highly recommend this course. No matter how good we think we are there is always something we can learn to better ourselves and our parenting.
The courses are quick, cheap and you will come out of it with a new understanding and a calmer outlook on how you parent. If you have more than one child you can learn to appreciate the difference in needs and personalities and the slightly different way you need to parent each child. If you have kids from age 0 to 18 there is something in there for you.
The next classes are
10th September at 7pm in Swanbourne
24th September at 7pm in Swanbourne
28th September at 1pm in Melville.

I will keep you updated through my blog on strategies that we have been implementing at home.
