It’s finally starting to feel like Spring!!! And one of my favourite things about Spring is the Spring Racing season. I’m super excited to share with you my go to styles for this season. This year I am working with Racing and Wagering WA as the new Owners Only ambassador. In short, this mean lots of race meets so lots of different outfits.
There are guidelines to follow when dressing for certain race meets. For instance, the Melbourne Cup Carnival has different dress codes for different meets. Albeit you can slightly relax the codes and put your own flare to it but generally it’s nice to have the respect to follow the guidelines.
Darby Day: Black and White
Melbourne Cup: Bold and Bright
Oaks Day: Feminine and Pastel
Stakes Day: Relaxed and Flow
I”m loving all things bold and unique this year. Thurley has a collection of beautiful dresses perfect for the occasion as their dresses are full of elegant prints in different textures and colours. Here are some of my faves…
Don’t get me wrong, 90% of the time I do love a beautiful Spring dress for the races but can I just say that jumpsuits are definitely making a comeback ! I know some of you must be thinking that a jumpsuit is probably not dressy enough but by the end of this hopefully I have changed your mind. There are so many amazing jumpsuits that aren’t just your average jumpsuit. I recently wore an off shoulder Self-Portrait jumpsuit to the races with a cut out and culotte style pant (pictured below). I then opted for a simple Anita Carr headpiece so that i wouldn’t overdo the look. Alternatively, a simple jumpsuit can be worn with more elaborate accessories such as a chic wide brimmed hat, floral crown or a statement fascinator/headpiece.
Last but not least, headwear ! Some may even say this is the most important part of any race day outfit. You just don’t feel like you’re at the races without one. Picking a dress (or jumpsuit !) can definitely be hard but boy do I struggle finding a headpiece because there are SO many amazing ones out there! I find myself scrolling through websites for hours, red wine in hand after the kiddies are fast a sleep, just trying to narrow down the 12 sitting in my shopping cart. I’m very into metallic headpieces at the moment, especially simple elegant ones as my outfits are usually quite dressy. My go to’s are Leah Helean Millinery, Anita Carr, Studio Aniss, Reny Kestel and for a good boater hat Ace of Something have an awesome collection !
Just for more inspo, here are some of my top picks to suit the different race meets…
From Left to Right:
- Yeojin Bae. Double Crepe Charlee Dress, Emerald.
- Dion Lee. Utility Bustier Dress, Black.
- C/MEO. Heart Commands Midi Dress, Ivory
- Talulah. The Lottie Floral Midi Dress.
- Asilio. Love Lockdown Dress, White.
- Keepsake. Capture Dress, Terracotta.
I’ve chosen different styles and colours to match different race meets and with the perfect accessories you’re bound to pull together the perfect race day outfit!
