Spring is here!!! And with Spring comes many functions, openings, races, weddings, need I go on.
All of these events require a nice outfit, hair and makeup. As we all know this can’t be good for the bank balance. For me, one of my indulgence’s is to get my makeup professionally done but with SO many events it’s impractical and unaffordable to do so.
I pick my biggest events to treat myself and in between I am left to my own devices.
The same old makeup can get boring and when you are spending time and money getting glammed up it’s nice to be able to do the same with your makeup look.
I am excited to show you something that I have experienced of late. You may have read about Barbara Mordini and Twigged by Tali in my post here.
Barbara conducts makeup lessons out of her studio in Mount Lawely. I have been doing my makeup for years and there are only so many YouTube videos you can watch to try different looks.
Barbara took me through everything. She started with the basics and then showed me how to give yourself a little upgrade. I learnt techniques that are not only easy but also give a great effect when you need to add that little something for a wedding or event.
Foundation, blush, smokey eye, going from day to night, I learnt how to perfect it all.
Barbara is offering makeup workshops. If you want a little guidance on your current look or need to learn how to do a smokey eye without looking like you have been socked in the face then Barbara’s classes are for you.
During my lesson I was chatting to Barbara about the current trends for this Spring/Summer.
The trend for skin is slightly dewy. Well applied liquid blush in soft pink or peach will help achieve an all over dewy texture. Eyebrows are full and well sculptured. Don’t be afraid to accentuate with a little pencil (very important this is done correctly).
There is a lot of grunge eyeliner being used on the catwalk this SS. A nice smudge on the bottom lashes as seen in WA label One Fell Swoop, Lanvin and Gucci.
Eye’s are being accentuated with coloured liner. I used a dark violet in these shots, something I had never tried before. It’s important to use colours that accentuate your eye’s. Barbara will match this for you.
If you go easy on the eye’s make sure you go for a matt or stained lip. Bright pinks, oranges, reds or a great nude are all in this season.
Barbara’s top tips are
– a good foundation matched to your skin and well blended.
– tools of the trade are of the upmost importance to achieve a makeup artist look
– use a good concealer and only were necessary
– put your eyes on first. You would be surprised at the amount of excess that falls on your face whilst applying your eye makeup.
Grab some girlfriends and go see Barbara to learn the basics as well as easy way’s to upgrade your look for this spring summer.
