We have just returned from one of my favourite holiday experiences in Bali to date. With it’s close proximity to Perth and very reasonable flights and hotels costs, Bali has been an annual holiday spot for us for at least 10 years.
I’m not sure what it was about this holiday that made it so great but my guess would be the age of the kids and the three different experiences we had.
I did my absolute best to just switch off and relax, which believe me was no easy feat. With a little bit of work thrown in here and there I was able to enjoy my family, enjoy my holiday but still do the bits and pieces of work that make me tick and keep me stimulated. A very happy me all round!
We split our 9 night holiday up into three different experiences. This might not be everyone’s cup of tea but for me, as I’m very used to being constantly on the go, this was perfect.
Our first three nights was spent an uber kid friendly hotel in Kuta, Bali Dynasty. If you have young kids, this is the place to be. We had a beautiful pool side villa which split into two separate sections, Mum and Dad and a bunk and trundle bed in the other room. Our room was right on the kids pool which boasted a massive slide and kids water play area. Our only problem!! Our two year old dare devil who insisted on going down the massive slide over and over again. We have our work cut out for us with this one.
For the next three nights we headed to the stunning Karma Resort in Jimbaran Bay. A completely different experience to the last, we were shacked up in a beautiful three bedroom villa with our own private pool. Because it was just us as a family, we quickly developed a daily routine. Breakfast in the restaurant was our first point of call. The kids would then run straight to the kids club right near our room. They absolutely loved the kids club! Hell yes!! We would usually have lunch in our villa followed by a movie and a rest and in the afternoon we would take a short stroll to the beach so the kids could play in the sand and we would have a sunset seafood dinner on Jimbaran Bay beach. Our final destination of the day would always be back to the Karma Lounge for cocktails and dancing. An AH-Mazing full body massage in the day spa finished our stay off at the Karma perfectly.
Our last three nights were spent at the Courtyard by Marriott in Seminyak. We have frequented Seminyak for years so it was lovely to finish off our holiday back in familiar territory.
The hotel was the stunning! The Courtyard by Marriott is a new hotel and we felt at home as a family and would have felt equally comfortable just as a couple too. We had two adjoining rooms overlooking the bar and swimming pool which was perfect for an afternoon gin and tonic when the kids were showering and getting ready for the night. The kids club was beautiful and new and more importantly for us the Courtyard my marriott had a fantastic swim up bar and fabulous service. The breakfast buffet was incredible! I’m talking everything you could ever want in a breakfast. MYO smoke salmon bagels, fresh juice, eggs anyway you like and ice-cream in a cone. Yes, we did let the kids splurge a little, I couldn’t help myself so how could I expect them to!
My top 6 tips for travelling to Bali with the young ones.
1: Get the kids their own little luggage bag and pack light! They loved being responsible for their own things.
2: Tropical mosquito repellent is a must both day and night. Those things are everywhere.
3: Pack the kids goggles. The chlorine is really harsh on their eyes.
4: Tip, tip, tip!! The workers in Bali are on such a minor wage that they rely on tips. You’ll be amazed at how grateful they will be.
5: Get a good nanny and head out!! As much as we LOVE hanging with the kids, Andrew and I also love to spend time together. Having the same nanny for the past couple of years meant the kids were comfortable and we could head out for a much needed adult catch up and cocktails.
6: Workout!! My dad used to say “exercise is part of your life and life doesn’t stop when you’re on holiday” And of course the food and drink taste that much better after a little sweat session.
Huge thank you to Bali Blogger Collabs for making this trip as stress free and easy as possible.
