Only a few sleeps until Valentines Day! The most common phrases I hear are….
- We don’t DO Valentines Day
- Valentines Day is such a scam
- I don’t need one day in the year to remind you I love you, you know I do
Honestly, I think that’s just a man’s way out of doing something special and a woman’s way out of not feeling bad when she gets nothing.
I really don’t think it takes that much effort to do something, even just a little special.
In today’s day an age we are so busy! Juggling work, school, kids, husbands, pets, family and friends, most of us can honestly say, and with gusto, we are stretched. I even found myself saying the other day that I avoid making new friends as I don’t have the time to see my current friends. How sad is that!
Day by day, week by week goes by and I will be the first to admit that little gestures of love for my husband seem to fall by the way side. Poor hubby…..horrible wife….
Hats off to all you fabulous people out there that continue to be able to show acts of love in your everyday life, I need some of that.
So from me to Saint Valentine, thank you. Thank you for representing one day in a year where I can be reminded to show my husband how much I truly do adore him.
It goes without saying that this something does not have to be measured in monetary value. It doesn’t have to be big and shiny (or little and shiny) it doesn’t even need to have monetary value at all.
How gorgeous would it be to have a love letter left by your loved one before they went to work or to be given a cup of tea in bed. Every year Andrew’s mother sends all her kids a card and a chocolate in the mail without fail, how gorgeous and thoughtful is that.
So here are my top tips and gifts for Valentines Day to help you come up with ideas to show your loved one how much you care.
Time – what could be better than time. I know time is my language of love! Just making space in our busy schedule to give some time to each other is my number one preference. Even if it’s just a phone call to say I’m thinking of you. A gorgeous card so say how much you appreciate each other and if you can’t get a sitter crack a nice bottle of champagne and cook dinner WITH each other at home. And please, turn the off TV.
Dinner – take each other out for dinner. It’s definitely something we don’t get to do very often. Beluga still have spaces left for a romantic Valentines Day and they have a live acoustic player to set the mood. For bookings phone 9383 1638
Gold Class Movie Tickets – I actually can’t remember the last time I went to the movies with my husband. Surely a gold class movie voucher will do it!
Lingerie – Something that I don’t buy for myself but would be a gorgeous gift from your loved one. Now gentlemen, please make sure you buy the right size. The result of the oversized lingerie purchase will be a real V Day killer. You can’t go wrong with Simone Perele.
A wee little bit of jewellery – I spotted these rings on Instagram and fell in love. Simple but different, delicate but a statement piece and a really good price. You can’t go wrong. You can purchase this Grace and Scarper ring here from In Her Shoes Boutique.com
A flower – yes, cheesy!! But please, they are still so lovely. I am talking about the ‘I love you’ flower, not the ‘I’ve been naughty’ flower of course. There’s nothing like being given a flower, even if it’s picked from the neighbours garden…..
If you are thinking of going extravaganza then you can’t go wrong with diamonds hand crafted to perfection by Dorris Brinkhous at Brinkhous Jewellers in Claremont. Valentines day has been a very popular day for the bended knee and will continue to be for years to come. The personalised service and her exquisite jewellery will be the experience every man is looking for when searching for this life changing purchase.
If all else fails, a quick trip down to your local Adult Shop will always do the trick……
Happy Valentines Day!!! Mmwaaa…xx
