How to feel presentable in 42 seconds.
From this to this in 42 seconds….
It takes me 42 seconds to put my face on in the morning. I should know because I timed it. With 3 young kids it’s very easy to fall into the trap of not looking after yourself and for me, looking after myself includes leaving the house with a touch of makeup to make me feel put together.
To all you gorgeous human beings out there that are confident enough to leave the house a-la-naturale I applaud you! You go girls!! If I’m out exercising I’ll go without, but most of the time I need a little something.
My Dad would say to me when I was a little girl “only ugly girls wear makeup darling, you are beautiful, take that crap off your face”. Gosh I love my Dad. Such a great, genuine sentiment coming from my number one man….and I’m sure a lot of other guys would concur with this.
Even though Dad did such a fabulous job of instilling confidence in me, being the girly girl that I’am, the glitz and glamour of the makeup world was too strong for me to resist.
I have never been a ‘pack it on your face’ type of girl. I believe a little bit goes a long way. If you apply it correctly, have the right makeup to suit your skin tone and you can make it look natural, then this is all you need for an everyday confidence boost.
I try not to let having 3 kids and a super busy life compromise my ability to feel good and as much as it is so much fun to have a fabulous face done for a night out on the town, it’s just as rewarding to take 42 seconds in the morning to help put your best face forward.
Here’s what I do.
Picture this… your showered and ready, kids are ready. The breakfast bar has been cleaned, dishwasher on and clothes transferred from washing machine to dryer. You have all of two minutes to get yourself from the kitchen to the bathroom and back to the front door to get the hell out of the house.
Firstly, concealer. This is my best friend. Place it under the eyes, in the corner of the eyes and a touch on under the arch of your eyebrows. Having a newborn I do get tired (go figure) and the best way to combat that awful tired look is to conceal under the eyes. If this is the only thing you take from this blog then I am happy.
A little bit of concealer under the eyes can make ALL the difference. Putting a smidge in the inner corner of your eyes makes your eyes look whiter and under the brow lifts and highlights your brow. It’s fabulous if you are like me and struggle getting to the beautician to get your brows tended to regularly.
I use Becca Radiant Skin Creamy Concealer.
Then I reach for the bronzer. Choose something a little warmer for winter. Substitute your summer bronzer for a bronzer with underlying peachy/pink tones. This will also eliminate having to use blush when you are in a rush. I have been using Alison Jade Cosmetics Bronzer. I love the warm undertones, perfect for avoiding pasty winter skin.
When applying your bronzer picture a 3. Take your brush from the top of your forehead sweep it around and down to the apples of your cheeks, then back up and down stoping just before your chin.
Lastly grab that mascara. I love mascara! I have a day one and a night one. My day mascara is this cheapie you can find at most chemists. Two of my makeup artists use it so I thought it must be a winner. It Great Lash my Maybelline. Cheap enough to buy two and throw one in your hand bag for emergencies.
For those of you out there who are not comfortable enough to leave the house with out foundation that’s ok too. I timed the whole routine again and it only took another 15 seconds.
If you have to put on foundation then please, please, please make sure it’s the right colour. Wear a sheer foundation or BB Creams during the day and blend. There is nothing worse that seeing slapped on foundation that isn’t the right colour and that clearly hasn’t been blended in properly. I always want to go up to these people and fix it for them.. But then I think “Rayne you are crossing a boundary”……
On the occasions that I wear foundation, I use Becca Luminous Skin Colour. I had it matched to my skin by Barbara Mordoni. She is wonderful and will match the perfect foundation for your skin. She is in Mount Lawley and you can get her on 0412 013 992 or www.barbaramordini.com.au If you can get in to see her I highly recommend it.
What’s your bare essential makeup routine to leave the house? Are you happy to wear none at all? Would love to hear from you!!
