One commitment I made when I entered the world of blogging and social media was that when I am with the kids I am present, I am WITH them.
I’m not darting off to update my status or on the iPad in the kitchen while they eat their lunch. It’s hard and tempting to not go there but at the same time it’s so easy to allow these mediums to take over your life. It was important for me to recognise this, especially as a working mother already spending time away from my kids.
This is not to say that I am perfect for I will admit, there has been many occasions when Autumn is having to repeat herself and then yell at me to get my attention which ‘accidentally’ is on something else. I always immediately feel so horrible for not upholding my commitment, as it’s unfair that Autumn has to try so hard to get me to take notice.
Is this where kids learn selective hearing? I always thought selective hearing stemmed from kids trying to get Dad’s attention while he watched the news. Is it now Mum’s who are continually occupied with social media and other devices
I would love to hear from you.
Are you a serial social media engager and do you ‘accidentally’ not give your kids your full attention?
Do you think it’s OK to engage in these mediums while you are with your kids?
Thanks for your feedback!!
