Hi Rayne, do you recommend any particular shoes for toddlers still learning to walk? I have a 17 month old whose only just started walking but she needs shoes for public places etc
I’m a massive fan of babies and toddlers in bare feet but you are right, there are some occasions where they need to wear shoes.
Just so you know, bare feet is the best way for babies to learn how to walk, learn about hot/cold ground and all in all it’s just better for their foot development to have no shoes on. Arch’s and heels in kids shoes are an absolute no no. It really annoys me how many kids I see walking around in shoes that are doing serious damage to their bodies. I had a little rant a few weeks ago here. “My 4yr old will not be wearing heels, thank you”.
I didn’t put shoes on my babies feet until I absolutely had to. Some of the babies shoes getting around are ultra cute!! But there is absolutely no purpose for them other than to look good (unless there is a medical condition). That being said, socks were my go to just to keep the kids tootsies warm during the winter months.
I also have a 17 months old needing to wear shoes, so bearing in mind that barefoot is best, I always try and put him in shoes with as little support as possible. It simulates barefoot conditions and is much better for their development.
Here are a few of my favourites.
There are fabulous shoes that look like socks with a leather sole. I can’t find my pair or remember what the name is but you will know them when you see them. Does anyone else remember the name?
Let me know how you go. Thanks for touching base.
